and I absolutely love this manual

I have read this several times since June last year, and I absolutely love this manual! It has helped me tremendously in the process of reality creating, and connecting with my truth/authentic self. For me this is one the best out there on this subject, it resonates with me deeply, and connects with my process, in other words it works with me, not against me in any way. It is very precise, and concise. Non-judgmental, easy to read. and easy to understand. Well written, and channeled. I enjoy the format 30 chapters for 30 days, reading a chapter a day to absorb the information. Actually I highly recommend anyone who is interested enough on this subject, to read it many times, as reading it more then once, will truly ferment it internally, every time I read it over, I understand it more profoundly, as it becomes more natural to be a conscious creator. Practice is essential. Hope everyone who reads it gains something special as I did. :)

Life Changing Manual to a Joyful Life

I bought this in hard cover from a local book store and it has been life changing! It describes a process that will change your life, help you live with joy and freedom and teach you how to live at an unimagined level of peace and purpose.

But be warned: it is a manual. A textbook in fact for creating the life you desire. As I read, I knew I had to highlight and underline. Then I realized almost every line was colored. And many pages had flags to remind me to read them again. As I closed the book on that first read, I knew that it held many of the pieces I was missing to live a complete life, so I began again, this time making notes. And I filled a scribbler.

Too much to remember. So I started again, working my way through the information in the manual and again making notes. But this time, they were more personal - directions and methods of application of the teachings of the Family of Light that apply to me. I mentioned it to my friends and we've spent hours discussing the teachings, all of us applying them to the unique circumstances of our lives. They always work.

Amazing.

You can read this book casually and lightly - as just another book. Or you can study it, read and re-read, and allow it to change your life. The choice is yours.

Charles Platt is a Contributing Editor and regular columnist for Make magazine, where he writes about electronics. Platt was a Senior Writer for Wired magazine, has written various computer books, and has been fascinated by electronics since he put together a telephone answering machine from a tape recorder and military-surplus relays at age 15. He lives in a Northern Arizona wilderness area, where he has his own workshop for prototype fabrication and projects that he writes about for Make magazine.

A perfect introduction to gaining lifelong skills

This book is a gem. If you're lucky, you learned these skills by osmosis when you were young. Too many people (myself included) did not. This book is perfectly structured to teach a young adult, new homeowner, eager parent, or someone in search of an open-ended hobby. The chapters sequentially introduce new skills, with achievable projects that will lead to new ideas of your own. For the tools needed, specific manufacturers and part names are suggested, but the author freely admits there are several varieties, and favors none. There are well-written asides to add depth to your understanding, and direction for where you might gain even more knowledge. The style of writing is so good that you can picture the author sitting with you, talking you through a project and sharing what he knows--patiently, eagerly, and humbly.

Children learn by playing--doing something, adjusting, trying again, not particularly concerned with the final result, just enjoying the process. It's harder for adults to learn. We don't like the embarrassment of being unskilled; we want the rapid good outcome, and we don't always have open-ended time to practice and explore. This book will make the most of your time, with a minimum of perceived embarrassment, and a make an achievable and respectable final product.

This book is ideal for those who want these creative, constructive, and useful abilities. Maybe you'll work through these chapters and projects with your children. You can. Maybe you have dreams of making a wooden toy for your grandchildren. You will. Perhaps you have visions of attacking larger woodworking projects from those books that naturally assume you know your way around a shop. You'll get there. This book can be the beginning. I highly recommend it without reservation.

Best & Most Entertaining How-To Book Ever!

As an experienced builder and hobbyist I expected this book to be too simple for my tastes but from the first moment I opened it both the content and style have astounded me with their depth and approachability. Platt has written one of the most engaging how-to books I have ever read; he dives right into projects and encourages the reader to do the same, with pictures and text that do an amazing job of teaching concepts that simultaneously build confidence and skills you can use across a wide range of disciplines. His explanation and techniques regarding thermoforming plastic are incredibly unique & introduced me to a world of virtually limitless potential for hobbyist projects.

Don't be fooled by the title, this book goes well beyond tool use and delves into template, pattern & jig making that are at the same time simple, useful and adaptable to even the most complex projects. All done with patience and humor that has left me satisfied, educated and entertained. Even learned a bunch about geometry & statistical randomness that has finally allowed me to make sense of all those concepts my 7th grade teacher failed so miserably to get across! Well done, Platt!

From His Heart to Your Heart. Truly an Inspirational Read.

Several months ago I never heard the name Ed Mercer. Then one day a business associate called me asking if I would join him at Starbucks. When I arrived sitting there with him was Ed Mercer himself. Non-assuming, always smiling, cracking jokes and shaking hands with the people around him.

Since that day I've had the rare privilege to not only meet Ed face to face, but to speak with him on a daily basis. He shared with me his book and parts of his story. He never asked me to buy his book, read it or even write a review.

I'm doing this because I truly believe this is a must read.

After reading the 8th Grade Millionaire I have a true appreciation for my friend. The saying, "Don't judge a book by it's cover" is so true! Ed's story had both my wife and myself in tears. There are parts of the book where even today, when my wife shares stories from the book, she tears up.

Ed is a man who speaks from his heart to your heart. His book is full of little nuggets and treasures of wisdom through out the 8th Grade Millionaire.

To read about his background, the adversities he overcame and outlook he shares with others, is truly an amazing and inspirational reads.

Here's what Amazon is not telling you. When you buy the 8th Grade Millionaire the proceeds go to charity. Buy the book. Read an amazing story. Ponder on the thoughts he leaves you with and know that this man lives to give.

Trust me. It's worth it every penny. I've read this book several times over.

Meet One of the Most Courageous Souls You'll Ever Know

Am reading "The Eighth Grade Millionaire" by my mentor Ed Mercer. What Ed had to overcome in his life is nothing short of horrifying. Yet, to know Ed is to be in the presence of one of the most loving human beings you'll even know. I'm only on chapter 2 but can tell you that with what I've read so far, if anyone reads this and still makes excuses then they are indeed lost in this life.

Candice Ragland's Invisible Dad is perfect for the vast marjority of women in our culture - those raised with out a Dad or without a Dad who was around. Because of her own life experiences she is able to perfectly describe the plight of the fatherless daughter. I was right there when she talked about cutting off her feelings, her perfectionism as a way to avoid the hole in her heart and Turning to older men to fill a hole. There was a passage in the book where Candice talks about a trauma that had me in tears for her bravery and courage in sharing this with the reader. How many of us have felt that every attempt to rise up and ignoring our past lead directly to falling down- hard?

Peppered with quotes from bible scripture and showing that faith and being vulnerable can lead to deep healing I recommend this book to any woman who for whatever reason they find themselves reflecting on the pain of having an absent father in their childhood. This is a story of redemption, forgiveness, grace and real healing. It's very inspirational.

How to heal... first, stop consuming societal and media propaganda/fantasy and accept that perfection is not attainable...

I applaud this book because it's good to have a dialogue about this; but sometimes the only thing worse than being fatherless is having a father around.... Perfectionists are especially vulnerable to thinking that "if only ...(I had a father in my life) then everything would be perfect." But it wouldn't, because life isn't perfect. I don't think Christianity is necessarily the route to healing, but if it works for you go for it. If you are "fatherless", keep in mind that what you see in media is fiction, not reality. There is no "Mr. Brady" the perfect dad. Thinking your life was "ruined" because you are "fatherless" is to a certain extent magical thinking. No one gets to choose the father they have, and most are far from perfect. Some of the girls who are telling you how great their dad is are actually experiencing abuse in private. My parents put on such a great act in public, few suspected the emotional and verbal abuse that was going on behind closed doors. My brother's friends would say "oh your dad is so cool", because my parents always kept up the "nice" and "perfect family" act when "others" were around. So keep in mind that what you "see" and think others have isn't necessarily real. That perfect dad you are pining for actually doesn't exist. That other girl you envy may experience severe emotional, physical, even sexual abuse at the hands of that "perfect" dad. You don't know it because abusers are often glib sociopaths, who live for conning and manipulating the beliefs and emotions of others; they go out of their way to act "nice" in public in order to manipulate your opinion of them. One way of healing is accepting the fact that you might be way better off without a father in your life, since one out of four females are sexually assaulted, usually by a father or step father, before they are seventeen years old. Many more are emotionally and verbally abused, which has a lifelong effect on their self-esteem and mental health. That friend who is lavished with material goods like cell phones and cars by her "perfect dad" might be cutting herself in private or considering suicide due to the chronic dysfunction and abuse that is carefully hidden behind suburban doors. Accepting reality is a first step towards "healing." A major thing that may be hurting you is a blind belief in fantasy. Focus on the real and positive in your life: You were never verbally abused or molested by your father because your mother didn't allow someone like that to be in your life. You have a better chance of having a decent relationship with a man because you didn't grow up being abused by a man. You haven't been emotionally broken down by chronic abuse. Don't *assume* that it's "perfect" or even "better" to have a "dad" in your life. For many of us, having a father in our lives was far from "perfect." Counselors can offer help to deal with perfectionism and the dysfunction & suffering it causes. IMHO it is the author's perfectionism, not the lack of a father, that fuels much of her suffering.

Awesome Testimony

Awesome testimony and something that more women need to read. "I couldn’t sustain myself any longer. I was failing at that process. So, on that day, I chose life." I love this line from the book. The decision the author makes to not accept her situation any longer and make a change... More women need to read this and see how God healed & developed her. My favorite part of the book is how the author using the Word of God throughout the book. Many times authors have advice and counsel but it's not based on anything beside their opinion. Overall, I think Candice Ragland is an engaging writer with substance and purpose in her words. For example this passage from the book is powerful:

"Relationships don’t define your purpose. They never have. Relationships are your position. I always defined my purpose around what did or did not happen in my life, but that was giving other people way too much power. My position is that I am a daughter, but my purpose was decided by God before the foundation of the earth."

That is really good. Find purpose in Christ not people, places, or things! I know I'm a male and not the intended audience but I really enjoyed this book.

With Coben's Latest Baby, The Formula Has Gone Terribly Sour!

Anyone who has read a number of Coben's books knows that his books are heavily based on a formula -- a formula which has resulted in many enjoyable books and in Coben becoming a major bestselling author. I, personally, have read all but one or two of his books and enjoyed all of them, albeit to varying degrees.

Then I read his latest book, Fool Me Once, which I not only disliked, I thought it was terrible.

I won't take your time describing the book's plot, as the Amazon Description above does a good job in providing this. Rather, my review will describe why I was so dissatisfied with Fool Me Once; which, in turn will, hopefully, be helpful to you in deciding if it is a book for you.

To be fair, Fool Me Once is written in a fast-paced style that makes it a very quick read. Unfortunately, that's the one and only good thing I can say about it.

The heart of my dissatisfaction centers on my feeling: 1) that all of the characters are paper thin, not to mention unlikeable and lacking in credibility; 2) the plot requires a suspension of disbelief well beyond my willingness to do so (and I am generally very liberal in this area); 3) the main female character comes across as a person that makes Wonder Woman seem like just an average woman; 4) the motivations for the actions taken by the various key characters were mostly implausible to me, and lastly, 5) the ending was ridiculous, and left me shaking my head in disbelief.

I know my critical review runs the risk of it getting a large number of "not helpful" votes, especially since most reviews for this book have been positive. But, if my review helps even a handful of people in deciding that Fool Me Once is not for them, I'll be satisfied.

Why is Every One of Coben's Novels EXACTLY the Same?

I read my first Harlan Coben novel about 4 years ago, a book titled “Caught.” I loved it! Great story, great writing, great characters and endless plot twists and turns.

I read a second Coben novel and yet again, was floored Great story, great writing, great characters and endless plot twists and turns.

A third novel by him moved him into my “very exclusive” list of Top 5 authors.

A fourth novel moved him into my top three.

I read a fifth novel.

It was when I was reading my sixth novel by Harlan Coben when it dawned on me: It’s the same story and same plot over and over and over and over again.

Simply put, if you’ve read one Coben novel, you’ve read them all.

There are SEVEN things that are in EVERY SINGLE COBEN NOVEL. Every damn one.

One) It always relates back to something that happened 20 years ago.

Two) There is always someone who died under ‘mysterious circumstances.

Three) It always relates to something that happened at a school, be it college or a private academy

Four) The protagonist’s best friend always seems shady, can never be trusted and usually appears to be involved in some sort of conspiracy.

Five) There’s always a strip club involved

Six) A loved one—husband, wife, sibling, parent—always had lived a double-life the protagonist knew nothing about

And Seven) The protagonist always—ALWAYS—ends up seeing a dead loved one and now wonders if they are really dead. Dead mother, dead father, dead brother, dead sister, dead husband, dead wife. It doesn’t matter.

And this novel, ‘Fool Me Once’ has the exact same 7 things. Same old tired, worn-out, rehashed storyline.

For anyone who has never read any of his novels, go to your local library, pick up any Coben novel and read it. I guarantee you will LOVE it. Then, do yourself a favor. Don’t read another one. If you’ve read, you’ve read them all.

Once you’re acquainted with his books, you immediately know what’s coming.

This book open with the protagonist, Maya, at her husband’s funeral. Knowing full well how all his novels are the same, I immediately said to myself, “Oh, she’ll see him alive.” Sure enough, by about page 35, she did.
By about page 65, we learn that her husband, Joe, had a brother. Joe and the brother were out at sea when the brother fell overboard. This was 20 years ago, just prior to Maya and Joe meeting. Again, knowing that all his novels are the same, I said to myself, “Joe killed his brother.” Sure enough, with about 40 pages left, we are told that…yep, you guessed it, Joe killed his brother.

It always feels that Mr. Coben has a template and when it’s time for him to release a new book, he just plugs in characters names.

So, you’re probably wondering, “If you feel this way, why read his books?” Well, as funny as it sounds, I think Harlan Coben is a very gifted and very talented novelist. He is one of only 3 authors whose words have literally moved me to tears. He is one of a few authors who have actually had me burst out laughing. (Who doesn’t love Little Pocahontas and Myron Bolitar?)

His writing is great! His stories and plot? Not so much. And that’s what makes it frustrating. That’s why, I guess, I’m venting. Mr Coben is way too talented a writer to write the same old hackneyed novels year after year. I guess, since he is a best-selling author, why change? His fans will buy his books, hiw fans will read his books, he will make millions, his pubsisher and agent will make millions. Everyone will be happy—except for those of us who believe he is wasting his talent.

“Fool me Once” is the 14th Coben novel I’ve read. With the exception of Michael Connelly, one of my 2 favorite authors, this is the most novels I’ve read by any one author. So, why do I keep reading Coben books when I’m not a fan? Or more importantly, why do I finish every Coben novel I start? Simple. I not only like his writing style a lot but I love his characters.

His books are fast-moving, easy reads. He writes in a ‘conversational tone.’ It feels as if Mr. Coben is actually telling you a story, not writing a book. Plus, his characters are real people. They are funny, flawed, down-to-earth. You connect with them. You identify with them. So, even though I find his books identical, I’ve always finished his books simply due to the fact that I want to know what happens to the characters.

However, “Fool me Once” even ended that.

I found Mr. Coben’s style…off. Gone was the personal touch. The wit and humor felt forced. I cant help but feel that Mr Coben simply needed to fulfill his contract to churn out another book and put very little effort into this one. It seemed like his heart wasn’t in. The dialogue was forced and stilted and not real.

I also could not AT ALL identify with Maya, the main characters. Or connect with any of the secondary characters. Maya served overseas, She suffers PTSD. She is a single mom raising her 2 year-old daughter. She is the type of person you want to root for. Yet, she was…cold, aloof and downright boring, maybe even rude to people trying to help. We are told she loved her husband, Joe. Yet, we see no flashbacks of something that shows they were in love. She has a 2 year-old daughter, Lily. Yet, Maya seems uninterested in her daughter, almost inconvenienced when her daughter wants to hear a bedtime story. We are told Maya is great friends with a fella named Shane. Yet, she continually is rude and short with him, hanging up the phone on his numerous times and we see no evidence of their friendship.

I make it a practice to never give 1 star to a book I finish. If I finish it but don’t like it, I will give it two. However, “Fool Me Once,” to me, is worthy of just one star. 14 novels I’ve read by Harlan Coben and this was the worst. I strongly doubt I will read any more of his.

Not Coben at His Best

I have really enjoyed several of Coben's stand-alone novels in the past. His specialty is presenting "normal" suburban, middle-class people whose lives are turned upside-down by a sudden mysterious intrusion from their past. When his stories feel rooted in character, his is one of the best thrillers writers working. But lately, it seems, his work has become uneven. More of his books are missing than hitting. In a couple of cases, the writing has actually taken a drop in quality, as if someone else had written the book. In this case, it's not so much that the prose is bad, it's that the book feels more plot-driven than character-driven. It almost feels like Coben wanted to create a puzzle and was more interested in making sure all the puzzle pieces fit together than in creating an engaging, sympathetic and believable cast of characters. The main character doesn't grab you, she doesn't feel real, and she often behaves in ways that don't feel credible (for example, pulling down the pants of an obnoxious coach at a kids' soccer game). Some of the plot points feel recycled from old Coben books and the whole thing feels kind of formulaic and forgettable. It's not a bad book, it's just not the work of a good writer on top of his game.
