Handbook Review

This book provides an excellant source of information for the 'principles of operation' of modern avionics systems. Its the first of such texts that I have seen that takes the mystery out of the 'glass' environment. I highly recommend it for pilots trying to gain a better understanding of what is really going on behind the Cathode Ray Tubes and Flight Management Systems. I know of few other texts that provide such well organized information in such a concise collection of subject chapters.

Not what I was expecting

I was disappointed with this book almost immediately. Having paid $ for this text, I was expecting to see some high quality work. the first thing I noticed was that instead of being a well considered text that takes the reader logically from one topic to the next (as you might expect from a "Handbook"), its really just a collection of scientific papers written by various authors in the aerospace community over time and then bound together by the "author". Second, the graphics are not only not in color, they are often low resolution.
My advice: keep shopping.

About the Author
Shannon Trice-Black is currently a doctoral student in counseling education. She has been a school counselor for over 10 years and continues to maintain a small part-time counseling practice, working with children, adolescents, and adults. Shannon has presented her work and writings on classroom guidance, bullying, and relational aggression at conferences, workshops, and master's level classes. She serves on the board of the Jefferson Counseling Association and the Virginia Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. In addition, Shannon is a member of the Virginia Counselors Association, Virginia School Counselors Association, and American Counseling Association. Julia V. Taylor was a school counselor for Wake County Public Schools in Raleigh, North Carolina. Julia is a nationally recognized public speaker and frequently presents her research on relational aggression to educators at conferences, county and district in-services, and various workshops. She is the Professional Interest Network Bullying Specialist for the American School Counselor Association and serves on the North Carolina School Counselor Association Board as the middle school vice president. In addition to speaking to professionals, Julia frequently educates children, teens, and parents in local communities about relational aggression, body image, and other adolescent/teen issues. A weaker spirit might have succumbed to culture shock, destitution, depression and a horde of other traumas. Sylvia knew all these but resisted them.
This was an old world that she had read about; and it was also a new world because, outside novels and books on history, it had been forgotten for her generation.
She might be a physician in 2016, but in 1800 she was lucky – and sensible enough to accept - being a school teacher for children. She made friends. She earned respect. And she earned a living.
Also she met Sam Bullen who had just arrived from India with a fortune and no wife.

This is a delightful book that will appeal to a wide spectrum of readers; those interested in the history of London, time travel, how science develops ,life in the 1800s and how a contemporary (a young woman physician) might respond to being wrenched from today back to the time of Jane Austen and Cavendish. There are fasciniating insights...how would someone who had never seen plastic respond to the sighht of a plastic bottle? What would a Londoner of 1800 think of twenty first century dress? I eagerly await a sequel. John Coffey, please get to work

A mystery and history and a little medicine during an entertaining romp thru history

Wonderful combination of a history lesson, a mystery and interesting characters taking the reader thru a different time. The author furnishes much detail about the 1800s in London while drawing contrasts with the modern world. An altogether entertaining read with characters that draw the reader further into the story. Sylvia is a very modern woman in another time.

Intrigue and science amidst of spell binding tale in London, circa 1800

Sylvia grabs hold from the introduction and does not let go even at novel's close. Her paths along long-ago London transport the reader to the sights, sounds and society of 1800 and then pull back to present day hospitals and science. Will she stay or will she go? Dr. Coffey, hopefully, is working on a sequel. I loved this book and as days and weeks go by keep thinking of Sylvia.
