Must have for anyone with WLS

I have this book and live by it. Kaye Bailey is an advocate for those of us that have had weight loss surgery. She has written this book with love and experience. When I get off track from weight loss surgery and feel hopeless, I pick up this book and follow the five day pouch test. In those five days I feel back in control and empowered. Another plus to doing the five day pouch test is that I usually lose a few pounds as a bonus. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has had WLS. I have bought several of these books as gifts for my new weight loss surgery friends.

Inspired again!

I am 13 years out from gastric bypass. I didn't realize how much I had reverted back to my old eating habits until I read and reapplied the guidelines presented in this inspiring book.
I broke my ankle 2 years ago, it took 8 months to heal-I gained some weight and felt horrible. Even with the surgery weight continues to be a struggle, it always has been and always will be.
The surgery gave me a "tool" that I had forgotten how to use. This wonderful and inspiring guide has given me a way back to my "new" me, my real me. My confidence has been reawakened!
This is a life-long journey, sometimes we lose our way. I highly recommend this book if you have lost your way and want to get back on the path to being in control of your life. With love to my fellow WLS travelers; with Kaye Bailey's 5-Day plan, we can do it!!

The Real Thing

I have had this book since it first came out, and am thrilled to see a Second Edition and that it's now available on Kindle!

I had my weight loss surgery back in 1986, the Dark Ages of WLS. In those days the procedure was relatively rare and quite misunderstood. Furthermore, although I initially lost a lot of weight, I regained a great deal of it. I considered my WLS to be a failure, and it became my dark little secret. I spoke of it to nobody, and even my own children didn't know I'd had it.

Eventually, I managed to get back on track and obtained a healthy weight, which I've maintained since 1996. But my WLS was all but forgotten by even me -- until I found Kaye Bailey out on the internet a number of years ago.

Kaye is the Real Thing. A "pouch owner" herself for 10 years now, she understands all the challenges faced by those who travel the WLS journey today. Even before the "5DPT" came to be, Kaye's emphasis was on LIVING AFTER WLS -- not merely trying to achieve the body one always dreamed of, but of LIVING every day of that journey. Even while dealing with setbacks, misconceptions and occasional stumbles and serious falls, Kaye knows that at the same time we can and should experience the JOY of life while learning to love ourselves and the God-given miracle of our bodies.

Kaye's only motivation in her work with WLS patients is to offer help and support and enabling patients to help and support each other. With the help of Kaye and numerous WLS "Neighbors", I learned to joyously acknowledge and accept the role of WLS in my journey.

I watched the 5 Day Pouch Test (5DPT) develop from Kaye's attempt to find a way to get her own weight regain back on track to a phenomenon that truly changed lives. Day after day, people asked questions, exchanged ideas and recipes, offered encouragement -- and got back on track. The excitement grew, and the 5DPT took on a life almost of its own -- it worked! Many people who had despaired as they watched the pounds slip back on looked up with hope!

As a successful WLS patient, I know that success only comes with mindful effort day in and day out. We are human, and we get distracted with life at times, and that's when we may lose focus and gain weight. The 5 Day Pouch Test Owner's Manual is for the roadmap back to that Healthy Track. It is a "reset button" to put the mind and body back where they were immediately after the original surgery.

Catholic Convert's Accessible Apologetic

Shane Schaetzel is a Catholic convert who wrote Catholicism for Protestants as a means to answer some of the challenging spiritual queries that he heard in the Bible Belt.

The author uses his own faith history to illustrate a larger point about diversity in practice of faith amongst Catholics. Schaetzel was an Evangelical Protestant and a high church Anglican before “swimming the Tiber”. But the Catholic Church is made up of 23 different rites (though technically Churches) and the Roman Church is the largest among them but all are united in faith.

Most of Catholicism for Protestants is structured in a question and answer format which is eminently readable. This cradle Catholic was able to finish the short 100 page book in one sitting.

Schaetzel does try to answer many common questions Evangelical Protestants have about the Catholic faith. This sort of apologetic can be challenging as Evangelicals come from a non-sacramental, non-liturgical and non-ritualistic practice of faith so Catholicism’s practices and even its vocabulary can be confusing. While Schaetzel’s scholarship is evident in the presentation and the supplemental footnotes, his prose does not get bogged down by too much high church jargon.

Alas, at times Schaetzel’s playful but plain spoken prose muddies matters. But by the same token, such punchy prose can also break down barriers, as Schaetzel was able to do by comparing papal infallability to simple math equations that are also “totally correct and being without error”.

Shane Schaetzel’s Catholicism for Protestants will not only offer a clear Catechism but will also give the chapter and verse citations which sola scriptura Christians tend to seek.

AWESOME

This book has helped my Evangelical Protestant family better understand my
Catholic Christian faith, and was a great refresher course for me too. It's very
thorough and yet simple and easy to read. Each question and answer is backed up
with Scripture and Catechism references, along with references to the Church
Fathers. The author covers all the basics: Mary, the Saints, the Bible, the
Eucharist, all of it. I highly recommend it!!!

The author is very well researched and took the time to explain things in a manor beneficial to Catholics and Protestants alike. I enjoyed exploring the history and beliefs of the Catholic Church while being able to follow the scripture references cited. This is a wonderful book for seekers, curious Protestants, and a wonderful reference for Catholics as well.

Best anatomy book that I have used!

I am a medical student, and found this anatomy book the perfect thing for reference on my clinical rotations. The pictures are wonderful, and it includes "clinical correlations" pages in each section, with pictures specific to certain diseases and explanations of the disease processes/physiology. Honestly, it's much better than any anatomy book I used in undergrad or med school. A must for the med student who needs some brushing up as well as good illustrations!

Good book but EGREGIOUS formatting problems on some pages!

A lot of people in my class liked having this book b/c it was like having a portable, pocket-sized Netter's atlas with clinical correlations (seems like a good idea right?)

BUT be warned, there are some CRAZY formatting problems on some of the pages. I've never seen anything like it in a book before. Something weird must have happened to their computer during the editing process, b/c certain words will be cut-off or some pages will be close to gibberish.

If you don't believe me, check out page 85. "nur to disc initiates inflaator process" or "iscoenicpain" are two examples of sentences on this one page.

Thankfully, this doesn't effect the entire book. It's only a few pages out of the ~650 total pages. I think the book is still an excellent resource to have, but I like to know the flaws of things I buy before I buy them. Hopefully the publishers will see this and fix the next edition!

As a medical student, this book comes very handy. The information is very organized and it certainly helps in placing all the copious amount of information in a very organized way. I would strongly recommend everyone to invest and purchase this book. Finally, the clinical information placed alongside the basics of anatomy are truly helpful and a definite plus.

I loved this book! I actually ordered it several months ago and read it in one day. I could NOT put the book down. It is packed with so much information related to how to do just about everything with you own natural hair. I wish I had this book when I first became natural, it would not have taken me so long to embrace my own natural hair and appreciate it. She has definitely gotten to the root of natural hair and this book will give you an appreciation for your hair and how to handle it. Great and fast read!!
