Another great Volume! The ship between Utsugi and Yumiko is going full sail
By Sean W
I've been waiting forever for Vol.2 to be officially translated and it's finally here!
QUICK SUMMARY OF VOL.2
_________________________
For those that don't know The Isolator Vol.2 is a story about, Minoru Utsugi, a 16 year old boy who has an alien parasite living inside of him and gives him the power of isolation (an unbreakable shield that surrounds his body). After his fight with the Biter from Vol.1 he's invited by Yumiko (the Accelerator), to join a mysterious organization whose goal is to defend humanity from the threat of Ruby Eyes. Volume 2 takes place about 3-4 days after Volume 1. Minoru is introduced to the Black Eye hunter organization called SFD. There he meets new members of the hunter team and also learns more about The Third Eyes.
MY THOUGHTS
________________
What I loved most about this volume is Reki Kawahara, the author, not only makes the LN enjoyable to read, but he also teaches you a lot about science which was pretty cool. He even states in his Afterword section on the last couple pages that he would categorize The Isolator as a science-action series because a lot of the Third Eye user's power involve atom manipulation. Also, once again Kawahara flips the prospectives between the Villain (The Ignitor) and Utsugi. This is something unique because it lets you experience the backstory, fights, and the thoughts of the antagonist, which is something not a lot of story's do. Another thing I really liked about this volume is that the characters are still developing their powers as they go. Each fight Minoru gets in he starts to understand more and more of what his shield is capable of (using it offensively, using to protect others, etc) also we see the villains get stronger too. The alien parasite, Third Eyes, are still fairly new to this world. Most people infected have only had their powers for 3 months now so there's still a lot unknown, which also makes it more exciting because I can't wait to see the characters and villains further down the road with complete mastery over their powers. Overall I give this 5 stars because I really enjoy the characters, the unique powers, the artwork, and oddly the science lessons we get when we read this LN.
PS: The ship between Minoru and Yumiko is REAL xD

Pretty Good
By Scott A. Kinkade
A translated story is tricky to review because any problems you find might be due to the translation and not the author's skill. Nevertheless, I'm willing to share my thoughts here. The writing itself is somewhat basic and seems to be written for teenagers rather than adults. The narrative also switches between past and present tense in the middle of a scene, which bugs me. Again, I don't know if that's how the author wrote it or if it's a faulty translation, but this is the finished American product.
Regardless of translation, though, The Isolator is an entertaining story with compelling protagonists. Minoru isn't your typical hero since he's trying to make everyone forget he exists, and I find that very interesting. Yumiko is also a heroine who has her own problems but is easy to root for. And Suka, while not entirely devoid of clichs, still has his own angle.
Furthermore, the story has a cool comic book-inspired, superhero vibe which is really easy for a guy like me to get into. You can never go wrong with superpowers.
The book also includes some nice artwork to accompany the story. It certainly made it easy to visualize the characters.
However, I wouldn't get this book from Barnes & Noble. At $20, you're much better off buying a used copy off Amazon for less (hence the link below).
With plenty of questions that still need answering, I look forward to reading future entries in this series.

Best book i've read this year so far
By alberto
I read Isolator Volume 1 and I really enjoyed reading it. I can't remember exactly when the first volume released, but ever since i read it i have been waiting for this second volume to release. A big reason I decided to read these books is because they were written by one of my favorite authors (Reki Kawahara), who's written two other series that I really enjoyed reading as well (Sword art Online, and Accel World), so I went into these books with great expectations. For those who want to know a bit about this series, and figure out if they'll like them. I'll give some information regarding these books. First the genre of these books is an action, science fiction light novel series. The story revolves around a guy named Minoru Utsugi who has a traumatic experience as a child, when people break into his home and murder his entire family. Since losing his family, all Minoru yearns for is complete isolation from the world, and everything else around him. Some years pass after the incident, and Strange objects descend from space down to earth. These objects enter the bodies of people, using them as host. The host of these artifacts that have descended from space, gain special abilities based on the experiences they've had in their lives, and minoru becomes one of them. I personally love his ability. If I could pick an ability to have, Minoru's ability would be at the top of the list. There are two different types of artifacts one is red and the other is black. Due to an incident Minoru meets yumiko, who is known as "the accelerator" because of her ability, and like him is also the host of a black artifact. Yumiko is part of an organization made up of people, who host black artifacts within themselves, and obiously also posses abilities from them. This organization's members use their abilities they've gained from the black artifacts to fight those with red artifacts, who use their powers that they've obtained from the red artifacts inside their bodies, to wreck havoc on innocent people, and commit crimes. I'm going to stop there with that brief description. There's obiously much more to the story and i avoided very specific details because I don't want to spoil it for those who're intrested in picking up this series so i'll leave it at that. As I said I'm really enjoying this series, and If you were intrested in what I just told you about the story and want to know more, then you should definitely check out these books. Now for my opinion. I really enjoyed volume one, but I enjoyed volume two even more than the first one. The second volume now having a base from the previous volume, built more on the current story, and gave better explanations into the artifacts(as it should lol), added new characters, and showed some great character development for the main protagonist, and heroine. Learning more about the artifacts and how they're abilities work was also pretty intresting. The relationship between the main protagonist, and heroine was explored, and developed more in the second volume. We found out more about the main heroine and her past which was pretty intresting. I loved the moments between the two main characters in the second volume. I literally couldn't put the book down after i started reading these parts, so yeah in short I highly recommend these books if you're looking for something new, and intresting to read.
