About the Author
Michael Meyer has taught writing and literature courses for more than thirty years since 1981 at the University of Connecticut and before that at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and the College of William and Mary. In addition to being an experienced teacher, Meyer is a highly regarded literary scholar. His scholarly articles have appeared in distinguished journals such as "American Literature, Studies in the American Renaissance," and "Virginia Quarterly Review." An internationally recognized authority on Henry David Thoreau, Meyer is a former president of the Thoreau Society and coauthor (with Walter Harding) of "The New Thoreau Handbook," a standard reference source. The American Studies Association awarded his first book, "Several More Lives to Live: Thoreau s Political Reputation in America," the Ralph Henry Gabriel Prize. . He is also the editor of "Frederick Douglass: The Narrative and Selected Writings." He has lectured on a variety of American literary topics from Cambridge University to Peking University. His books for Bedford/St. Martin's include "The Bedford Introduction to Literature; The Compact Bedford Introduction to Literature; Literature to Go; Poetry: An Introduction"; and "Thinking and Writing about Literature.""

Amazon is the best for books!

It is never fun to have to read for school but this book really made it more pleasant. Amazon.com is also the best place to purchase school books. Their prices definitely beat the competition and they have the best customer service around! The book did have some cosmetic flaws but it didn't cause any issues with reading or handling the book.
I do a lot of reviews so here is a breakdown on how I determine my star rating of a product:
5 stars – I love it! It is awesome and I highly recommend everyone to purchase this product!
4 stars – I like it, but there are some flaws. Don't we all have flaws? I would purchase again.
3 stars - It was okay, but I would probably not buy it again unless there are no other options.
2 stars – There may be worse products out there, but you can definitely find better choices.
1 star – I dislike the product, I wish I had not purchased it and recommend others to not purchase

EXCELLENT STUFF

It is really compact as called by the author/publishers. This book is painstakingly put together by the author's wealth of experience in the field literature. It will arm every student that painstakingly read and study the materials in it. The most interesting aspect of it is the external online resources provide to widen and deepen the understanding of literature at this level and your research. It is FABULOUS!
I will recommend it 24/7 to anyone who really wants to have a formidable foundation in reading, critical thinking and writing. It is helping me big time. Go for it, do not hesitate. It is worth more than the price, though pricy as it may appear to some.

Exactly what was expected

This is exactly the book that my stepdaughter needed for her first college English class. It showed up in perfect condition and she was happy to have it. Even though she waited until the last minute to tell me she needed the book it arrived on time. She was able to follow along without any issues in class and even found herself surfing through the book even when she wasn't required to read it.
